Why Choose Cash-based physical therapy?
Forge Performance Physical Therapy operates as a cash-based Physical Therapy (PT) practice. For most, this is different from care they have received in the past from PT clinics that utilize the patient’s insurance plans to get payment for the services they provide.
1.1 Traditional Insurance Model in Physical Therapy
In the insurance model, patients who get care from Physical Therapists typically have a maximum number of visits they can use during their benefit period (usually a 12-month duration). While some insurance plans may offer more visits after their limit has been reached, if medically necessary, others will not allow more visits and require patients to pay fully out-of-pocket to continue to receive PT services.
Additionally, patients are often required to pay copays, a set rate for covered healthcare services, at each PT visit. Copays may or may not count toward their insurance plan’s annual deductible. Deductibles are the amount of money patients are required to pay before their insurance begins helping with payments. For many, these deductibles can be a large sum of money and requires them to pay fully out-of-pocket through the duration of their PT treatment.
Another piece to the insurance model of care is that due to declining reimbursement rates from insurance companies for PT services, PT clinics may schedule multiple patients at one time with a single Physical Therapist to maximize revenue. Unfortunately for the patient, double, triple, or quadruple-booking patients within a 1-hour time slot is not uncommon and often results in less 1-on-1 time with their Physical Therapist.
1.2 Cash-Based Model in Physical Therapy
As stated earlier, Forge Performance Physical Therapy bypasses the insurance model and charges patients directly and per-visit with a cash-based model. This approach provides a number of benefits:
Patients will not have to worry about running out of insurance-covered PT visits, copays, or high deductible plans.
Patients will know exactly what they owe and what will be charged per visit.
All visits to Forge will be 1-on-1 for a full 60 minutes with a staff Physical Therapist.
PT visits will be scheduled in a flexible and cost-effective manner for the patient. This often means less visits to our clinic. The average number of visits for a Forge PT client is 5-7 visits over a 3 month period.
Rehabilitation will be personalized to the individual and not dictated by insurance reimbursement or the number of visits available.
The traditional insurance model can restrict patients from receiving the best Physical Therapist care possible. At Forge, we utilize a cash-based practice model to provide 1-on-1, personalized rehabilitation for each of our patients. We are strong believers in our practice model and its ability to create resiliency and maximize your time with us while getting back to the activities you love!
